Indispensable for Travelers: Rolex GMT-Master Series
Rolex pioneered in many areas of watchmaking. The company created the first waterproof watch and the first timepiece displaying the date and the weekday. Rolex is also famous for creating the first wristwatch to display dual time zones at once – the Rolex GMT-Master. The timepiece was created at the request of Pan American World Airways in 1954. The pilots of the company, making transcontinental flights, needed a watch that could display time in different time zones. Rolex successfully coped with this task and created a watch that remains iconic even today.
The way the watchmaking house incorporated the dual time zone function in the Rolex GMT-Master is quite ingenious. The dial of the watch features two hour hands, one for each time zone. The regular hand rotates every 12 hours, while the additional one does it every 24 hours. The bi-directional rotating bezel of the Rolex GMT-Master is marked with 24 hours and used as the additional dial.
In 1983, Rolex introduced a new model to the Rolex GMT-Master Series - the Rolex GMT Master II. Twenty two years later, on the 100th anniversary of Rolex, the company completely redesigned the watch. The new Rolex GMT Master II features a few technical improvements – a larger, easier to handle Triplock crown as well as a hairspring called PARACHROM, making the watch much more shock-resistant. The design of the timepiece has also been altered. The bezel of the watch is made of a new ceramic material, which is harder than the material previously used and more resistant to damage.
The Rolex GMT-Master watches are extremely popular with famous people. For instance, the Rolex GMT-Master was the watch of choice of both well-known Cuban revolutionaries, Che Guevara and Fidel Castro. The timepieces are also popular with the world's best sportsmen like Lance Armstrong.
Famous people can easily pay about ten thousand dollars for a stainless steel watch and twenty five thousand dollars for a gold one from the Rolex GMT-Master Series. Unfortunately, most regular people who want a Rolex GMT-Master cannot spend so much money on a wristwatch. But there is a solution to this gap between means and desires. It is quite simple – replica Rolex GMT-Master watches. It is nonsense to think that replica timepieces are just cheap copies of the genuine watches. Fake Rolex GMT-Master watches are powered by a reliable quartz movement that is even more accurate than the mechanical movement powering the real watches. They look just like the genuine Rolex GMT-Master timepieces. The watches are replicated paying attention to even the smallest details, like the weight of the watch or Rolex logos. Naturally, a by no means unimportant advantage of replica Rolex GMT-Master watches is their price - they are a hundred and more times cheaper than the real thing.
