During more than 160 years truly outstanding people created the company’s image – talented watch makers, designers, businessmen and of course all other employees whose faithfulness to the company and love to its products made Omega one of the most successful companies. In 1900 Omega was awarded with Grand-Prix at World Fair in Paris for its truly brilliant collection that included gold Greek Temple watches. By that time Omega had released more than 200 000 watches.
In 1930 Omega and Tissot launched the Societe Suisse pour l’Industrue Horlogere S.A (SIHH) corporation. This fusion gave the possibility to achieve a dominant position at international market.
In 1932 Omega for the first time became the official supplier of Olympic Games in Los-Angeles. Since that moment Omega has been participating in all most important sports contests in all over the world. In the same year Omega released its first dive watch - Marine watch in double case.
Ideal characteristics of Omega movements began “paying dividends” – the company won a great number of contests due to great accuracy of its watches. In 1936 Omega set a record that still has not been broken – one of Omega mechanism got 97,8 points out of 100 as the result of testing by Kew-Teddington observatory.
During the World War II Omega was the official supplier of British Royal Sky Forces.
In 1943 Omega released its first automatic wristwatch and in 1948 the company released Omega Seamaster –the watch that is famous for its perfect accuracy and reliability.
In 1952 Omega released its first Omega Constellation chronometer that later became the “calling card” of the company.
1957 was marked by release of the legendary Speedmaster that later was chosen as the NASA official chronograph. In 1975 all the participants of Apollo-Soyuz Test Project wore Speedmaster Professional. In 1981 the famous Omega Seamaster 120 m was released. This is an elegant dive watch that successfully passed the test on the wrist of Jacques Mayol during his world known dive without aqualung to the depth of 101 meter. This event took place on the 4th of November near the Elba island.
In 1993 the Seamaster Professional Chrono Diver with helium valve entered the market. This was the world’s first mechanical chronograph for divers with buttons that function under water at the depth up to 300 meters.
In 1998 Omega celebrated its 160 year anniversary and presented the legendary Speedmaster Professional X-33 – the watch that was designed in close collaboration with astronauts and professional pilots. The result of this collaboration is truly brilliant – the watch that features all the latest technical achievements that are needed by professionals.
